More SPS checks coming in July

As part of the ongoing phasing-in of the post-Brexit rules for imports, Agrifood traders needs to be aware that more sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) checks coming in July will include a requirement for EU suppliers to provide export health certificates for animal-origin products (including meats, eggs and dairy) and phytosanitary certificates for plants and plant-based products.

Agrifood traders need to prepare to understand the certification requirements and the actions they need to take to import SPS products post July. Even if the certificates are obtained by the EU supplier in the EU, the importer needs to obtain a copy of the approved documentation and pre-notify border authorities on the government's Import of Products, Animals, Food an dFeed System (IPAFFS).
